Imported water prices: Up 96 percent since 2006

So, last week, after much wrangling and teeth-gnashing, the mighty Metropolitan Water District of Southern California approved a 5 percent rate hike for next year, and another 5 percent rate hike for the year after that.

It could have been worse: The recommendation was to hike rates 7.5 percent next year, and 5 percent the year after. But howls from various corners of Southern California persuaded the board — which includes seven representatives from Orange County — to take a kinder, gentler approach…
