SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: Reject MWD bid to blame others for cost hikes As water rates climb throughout Southern California, it’s time for straight talk on water. Unfortunately, the June 24 attack on San Diego by Metropolitan Water District members (“End big campaign to shift water costs Inland”) is anything but straight talk. Blaming San Diego may be cathartic, but doesn’t address the real problems. Metropolitan is pointing fingers to avoid facing its own fiscal crisis, which is based on simple math — its costs are up and sales are down. A business that experiences a record drop in sales needs to cut spending in order to balance the books. The same is true for a household budget — when less money comes in, expenses must be reduced...
